Private Holiday Lets: The Best Accommodation for the London 2012 Olympics

The Best Accommodation for the London 2012 Olympics

There is no other sporting event that unites so many people the world over than the Olympics.

The only frustrating thing is that there are usually not enough tickets or accommodation options available for everyone who wants to visit, with London set to suffer from the same problems next year.

With most top London hotels already saved for VIPs and corporate visitors, very few affordable accommodation options will be available to the general public.

But rather than spending hours looking for suitable hotels in vain, it would make much more sense to book a private London holiday rental. There are plenty available in and around the capital or even slightly further out into Essex, Surrey, Hertfordshire or Kent, that provide many benefits over traditional city centre hotels

Avoid Premium Prices

It is a fact of life that prices for everything – food, accommodation and transport – will go up during London 2012 just because the Olympics is in town. A clever way to avoid this is to book a holiday villa away from the Olympic Park and central London. Look at the neighbouring counties in the south east – they will offer similar accommodation and sights, just without the inflated price tags, and transport into the capital is so easy.

Accommodation to Match the Event

Unless you are lucky enough to have a reservation in one of London's best hotels, the accommodation options will be quite basic despite the sky high rates. But why settle for anything less than what you deserve? A private holiday let can be a luxurious alternative that will become your home from home. A key benefit of choosing a private rental apartment for your Olympic accommodation is that you will not have to share it with anybody else – and even if you do not have a ticket for your favourite event, you can watch it the comfort of your “own” front room instead!

Avoid the Crowds

It is estimated by gamesbids.com that over 500,000 more people will be in London each day of the games, meaning it will become even more crowded than usual. Avoid these crowds by staying away from the packed central areas and locations next to the Olympic Park. Instead look towards other areas of London. There will be good transport links so it may be worth staying in a south London self catering apartment and then travelling to the East End rather than looking at the typical touristy areas that will be full to the rafters. A lot of events will be taking place throughout the capital and the suburbs so depending on what you wish to watch, you may be closer to the action by staying on the other side of town to everybody else.

Private holiday lets come in all shapes and sizes, so whether you are looking for somewhere luxurious or just a place to crash after a long day soaking up London 2012, there will be something to suit you perfectly.
